The Fenix Project was born out of the spirit of renovation y resilience linked to the myth of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

Similarly, the communities of Norcia and the Valnerina, deeply affected by the 2016 earthquake, are embarking on a determined path of reconstructing their identity, social, cultural and economic fabric.

That is why this project was born, fruit of a strategic alliance, which promotes training, innovation and territorial development.

Our student Laila, from the degree in International Relations, I travelled to Norcia together with other students of his university degree and of the degree in Tourism.

Laila tells us how Progetto Fenice allowed her to team up with international students to design proposals for cultural and tourism innovation in Norcia.
An experience that reinforces their training and prepares them to lead global projects.

From Murcia to Norcia: Together in Progetto Fenice

Students and lecturers from the International Relations and Tourism degrees had the opportunity to take part in the International Smart Cities School (ISCIS) in Norcia, Italy, within the framework of the Fenice Project, The project of reconstruction and cultural recovery after the 2016 earthquake.

On this trip, our University Centre The Open Faculty, Faculty of Tourism of the University of Murcia, has been able to contribute to a project that goes beyond reconstruction: the creation of identity and opportunities for a people that is being reborn.

New faces, different cultures, and the same illusion: to rebuild, create and learn together.

Thanks to Progetto Fenice, our students and teachers worked together with students and teachers of the Universities in Italy, Portugal, Poland, Croatia, Montenegro and Poland., During a week they developed innovative ideas for the revitalisation of the cultural and touristic heritage of the city. Sharing a week of work, ideas and learning beyond their usual environment.

When the university becomes a bridge between cultures...incredible things happen!
